SYNOPSIS

A concentration camp on a barren island is hell for the exiled prisoners. The everyday life of the people who live there consists of interrogations, psychological and physical violence, arbitrary punishments, and other torments. One of the prisoners who refuses to yield is subjected to torture and falls into the sea while attempting to escape. Such an incident is unacceptable for the prison administration, especially at a time when the Queen is to visit the island.

Pantelis Voulgaris (1940)

He studied at Stavrakou Film School and worked as an assistant director in several movies. After the award receiving short films such as “O kleftis” (1965) and “Tzimis o Tigris” (1966), the first feature film he shot in 1972, “To proxenio tis Annas”, received the FIPRESCI award in Berlin and was selected Best Movie in Thessaloniki. In 1973, he was sent into exile for six months. He directed his controversial political allegory “Happy Day” in 1977. Vulgaris, who gained a great commercial success with “Petrina hronia” receiving the Best Actress in 1985 in Venice, continued to actively shoot movies in the 90’s and 2000’s. The last movie he directed is “To teleftaio simeioma” in 2017.
