One of the masterpieces of Greek cinema, the debut film of Takis Kanellopoulos, Macedonian Wedding follows the traditions of a village called Velvedo in Western Macedonia and the preparations for a wedding. In this film, which is one of the first significant examples of ethnographic cinema, Kanellopoulos's poetic perspective transforms a world with roots lost in the distant past into a lyrical poetry.

He was born in Thessaloniki. He made his debut with the poetic ethnographical documentary “Macedonian Wedding” (1960). His first feature film “Ouranos”, competed for Palme d'Or in Cannes. He continued his highly praised lyrical perspective in his future films. He received Best Director in Thessaloniki with his film “Interlude” in 1968.
