FANOUROPITA

Every year Saint Phanourios asks that a pie be baked for him so that his mother be forgiven for torturing the nine martyrs. But instead of using just the nine traditional ingredients in the pie, Eνanthia added a whole lot of others to make it richer. ln other words she thought that the saint wanted to fill the bellies of the poor with the pie. And now it's time for the procession, the service, the bazaar, the fair, and the beggars who push, fight and chase each other for a piece of Eνanthia's pie. Only in the end it ends up in the bellies of a horde of angry dogs.

Eνanthia prayed to the saint for a better crop. Instead, apartment buildings spring up in her fields. May God forgive Saint Phanourios' mother!
